HOPWA
(Housing Opportunities for People With AIDS) |
 |
|
HOPWA is a housing program provided by the Mississippi State Department of Health. This program is one of a number of programs operated by grants given to states, with great flexibility in program structure. Consequently, the programs look very different from one state to another in almost all aspects, except that they all focus on providing Adequate housing for people who are HIV+. |
In Mississippi the funds are used to stabilize people in housing for which they have sufficient income to pay the rent for at least part of the year. The program pays all or part of rent for 21 weeks through the year, leaving 31 weeks in which the person must be responsible for rent. Case managers are designated for each Department of Health district to assist people in making application and to aid with other services needed to stay in safe and comfortable housing. Case managers interact with other services if clients allow release. |
Applicants must meet two criteria: HIV+ and low income. |
